February 20th, 2011: Dealing With Confrontation

Biblical Confrontation
Text to Read: Matthew 18:15-17 (NASB)

  1. What does it say (observation):
    • The term “brother” is used to refer to a fellow believer in Christ. With that defined who does this passage apply to?
    • What should a Christian confront (by implication what then should you not bother to confront)?
    • What should the objective of the confronter be?
    • What steps are to be taken when a fellow Christian sins against us?
  2. What do you think (interpretation):
    • Do you think most Christians confront too much or two little? Why?
    • What would it mean for a New Testament church to finally come to the point where they collectively treat someone like a Gentile or tax collector?
  3. What will you do as a result (application):
    • One of the things this passage relates is the seriousness of sin. Is there sin in your life (possibly that someone else has tried to point out to you) that you need to seek forgiveness for?
    • Are there fellow Christians who have tried to help you that you need to apologize to?
    • Have you been hurt by a fellow Christian who you need to lovingly and biblically confront?
