March 27th, 2011: Disqualification

As we’ve continued to explore a Christian perspective on the tough stuff in life, Sunday we looked at the pain of “Disqualification”, which can prevent you from the magnificent privilege of serving God publicly and in significant place of ministry. Our text was I Corinthians 9:24-10:13, where Paul challenges this sports oriented church to run to win, to make sacrifices, and to avoid disqualification.

  1. What does it say (observation):
    1. On what basis is David asking for forgiveness?
    2. How does David view his failure (sin)?
    3. Lists the requests David makes:
    4. What does he believe will result from God’s forgiveness?
    5. What does God require?
  2. What do you think (interpretation):
    1. Is God powerful enough to cleanse a sin stained heart?
    2. Look more at 2 Samuel 12 and following…
    3. Was God able to restore David?
    4. Did the consequences fit the crime?
  3. What will you do as a result (application):
    1. When you have fallen or possibly jumped into sin, how do you respond to God?
    2. Does your sin break your heart?(If not, ask God to break your heart over your sin.)
    3. Do you believe that God can heal & restore you?(If you struggle to believe, ask for the faith you need.)
    4. Have you asked God for the things David requests?
