March 3rd, 2011: Dealing With Death
On Sunday we concluded our series about tuff stuff by looking at the topic of Death. Our Biblical text came from John 11, which is the account of Jesus’ raising Lazarus from the dead. One of the main thrusts of the message was to debunk the belief that when God allows “premature” death, that it somehow proves that he is either unloving or not powerful enough to prevent it. To listen to the complete message you can find it on the church’s website by clicking here.
Life Application Study:
(A Bible study printed in the bulletin each week that builds on the Sunday message)
Death & Christ’s Return
Text to Read: 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 (NASB)
- What does it say (observation): (You need to know that asleep = dead.)
- What is the purpose behind what Paul is saying?
- Who will go with Christ?
- By implication who will not go with Christ?
- Where is Christ going?
- What do you think (interpretation):
- Do these words bring you comfort? Why or why not?
- What does it mean to die (fall asleep) in Christ or not in Christ? Can your opinion be backed up with Scripture?
- What will you do as a result (application):
- If you do not have the hope of resurrection in Christ after death, you can change that today by repenting of your sin, and embracing what Christ has done on the cross to pay for your sin. Then live your life for Him because He’s coming back for you.
- Who do you know that is grieved and without hope when facing death?
- Can you schedule time to talk with them about the hope found in Christ?
