Ephesians 6:1-4 (NASB)
1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER (which is the first commandment with a promise), 3 SO THAT IT MAY BE WELL WITH YOU, AND THAT YOU MAY LIVE LONG ON THE EARTH. 4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
This passage often packs and emotional punch. It can stir up hurts over how we were raised or how we’ve raised our kids. It can also stir up regrets over how we have treated each other or been treated in our families.
The reality is that no parent or child is perfect. So, let’s just agree that everyone is in process and for that reason we all need to grow together. Parents can always be more godly parents and children can always be more godly children. With the aim of growing together, we explore the themes included in this passage…
In Growing Together:
- Obedience Matters (vs. 1)
- Honor blesses you (vs. 2-3)
- Discipline lovingly (vs. 4a)
- Instruction is needed (vs. 4b)
