We concluded our “Family Time” series with a special sermon on Father’s Day entitled the “The Courage To Step Up.”
What is courage? Seems like a simple question. It’s a common word. We call war heroes courageous, but we use the same word to describe a man changing diapers, or playing sports, or eating extremely hot chili peppers. So what is courage, really? A key scripture in the Bible about how men especially are supposed to have the courage to step up is found in 1st Corinthians 16:13&14. It says “Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.” No matter where we are in life, God calls us to do our duty, sometimes in the valley under fire and sometimes in blue skies and sunshine. The objective is always the same…..we are called to step up and live a courageous life in and through Jesus Christ. Dying to self, in order to let Christ live in us…….that’s courage!
