As we look at Proverbs chapter 4 today, I can’t help but think of the famous book by John Bunyan: “PILGRIMS PROGRESS.” As many of you know, it is an allegory that tells the story of a character named Christian on a journey of discovery and freedom. But that doesn’t mean it is easy or that there aren’t pitfalls along the way. John Bunyan wrote this parable while he himself was in prison for his faith. It seems this was his attempt to get people to wake up from the numbing blindness of the cares of this world, to let go of their burdens and to embrace Christ. In a sense that’s what these early chapters of Proverbs are attempting to do as well. Here Solomon is teaching His son the kinds of things that were passed down to him by his father David. In this passage we see a picture of two paths; the path of wisdom vs. the path of wickedness. There are many valuable insights we can gain from this passage.
