Being sin wise is kind of like having a sports scouting report on an opponent. Now you know what they are most likely to attempt to do to beat you. Or you could compare what we’re looking at to studying the strategy of a military opponent, so that you know how they typically attack or defend so you can take advantage of their weaknesses.
While we often talk generally about sin and even give thanks for salvation from it, we don’t often talk about the details because it is uncomfortable. Even Solomon suffered defeats in the battle with sin, but thankfully that didn’t make him quiet. Instead, he sought to give those after him a better battle plan. If I was to describe Proverbs 5 to you, I would call it a moment of clarity in the battle against sin.
