Do lazy people bother you? If so, you’re not alone. Turns out, the word sluggard appears 14 times in the book of Proverbs. Solomon did not think highly of laziness. Lazy people are painful for others to work with. This sentiment seems to be epitomized in… Proverbs 10:26 (NASB) Like vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, So is the lazy one to those who send him.
It’s often much easier for us to spot laziness in others than it is in ourselves. Most of us don’t lay around doing nothing for large swaths of our day. We’re always doing something, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t being lazy. As we dive into the issue of work in Proverbs, we discover that at the heart of laziness there is something far more dangerous than we may expect.
