The Lord will give strength to His people! The Lord will bless His people with peace! – Psalm 29:11 (NASB)
Now may the Lord of peace Himself continually grant you peace in every circumstance. The Lord be with you all! – 2 Thessalonians 3:16 (NASB)
The psalmist declares confidently, “the Lord will give strength to His people; the Lord will bless His people with peace.” Peace isn’t something we earn; it’s a gift. It comes from the God who thunders over the waters, whose voice shakes the wilderness – and yet He bends near to bless His people with tranquility. Isn’t that amazing? The same Lord who commands the storm also speaks peace into the hearts of His children!
In 2 Thessalonians, Paul goes a step further, calling God “the Lord of peace himself.” Peace is not merely something God gives; it’s something God is. And because this is who He is, Paul can pray that the Lord of peace would “grant peace in every circumstance.” There is no season, no circumstance, no inner struggle where His peace can’t reach.
As I look back over my walk with God throughout my life, I can see a clear pattern emerging: the closer I grow to Him, the more I recognize His peace – not just in the big moments, but in the rhythms of everyday life. There have been many times when I felt peace arrive in a way I couldn’t explain. Moments when I expected to be overwhelmed but instead felt strengthened; days when I thought anxiety might take over, but somehow my heart stayed calm.
Those moments weren’t the result of me trying to be strong or attempting to talk myself into calmness. They were gifts – quiet, steady, unmistakable gifts from the Lord. Overtime, I’ve come to realize that this is exactly who He is. He doesn’t just give peace like someone’s handing out something separate from themselves. He is the Lord of Peace – peace is part of His very nature.
And because of that, His peace has become something I can expect, trust, and lean on. Whether I’m facing storms, transitions, memories or simply the everyday weight of life, God meets me “in every circumstance.” The longer I walk with Him the more I see that every moment of peace in my life has been Him – His presence, His character, and His hand on my life
As we anticipate Christ’s coming, we rest in the God who doesn’t simply offer peace but embodies it. He is the Lord who blesses us with peace and the Lord of peace who is always with us.
