“You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.” – Revelation 4:11
As we come to the end of this first Reflection series on Creation, I find myself stepping outside more slowly. I’ve been walking a bit differently, more attentive to the trees, more aware of the sky, more grateful for the simple sounds of nature that surround us.
It’s as if the earth itself has been whispering truths I’d not been paying attention to lately… that all of this exists for a reason, and not just for any reason, but God’s reason.
Revelation 4:11 brings us face-to-face with that purpose. The worship around God’s throne centers on this truth: “You are worthy… for you created all things, and by Your will they were created and have their being.”
Let that sink in for a moment. Creation exists because God willed it to be… because He wanted it. That includes the oceans and galaxies. It includes you and it includes me.
Earlier this year, I was feeling overwhelmed. Maybe you’ve been there. I was actually studying the busyness of the world and focusing on the pressures or stresses in my life caused by the lack of time I was spending in leisure. (Side note: time feels increasingly scarce, and true leisure has become a lost art. Many people live in a state of constant busyness, striving, and survival, leaving little room for reflection, rest, and renewal. This scarcity mindset has profound spiritual and emotional consequences. This is not the life God intended for us. More on this later.) Any way, I was questioning, “what is this all for?” On a walk with a friend, trying to clear my head, not even realizing that God was using the beauty of creation to pull my heart back to Him, nature became a refuge. We were passing some beautiful flowers and my friend, Christine, said something like, “This all exists because God wanted it to, and so do I.” It was such a simple moment, but her words reshaped something inside me that day and when we returned to the church from our walk my spirit was renewed.
As we end this two-week series through creation, here’s the final truth I hope you carry with you: Creation was made to glorify God. And you were made to glorify Him, too.
You don’t have to strive for worth. He already gave it to you when He chose to create you. You don’t have to chase after meaning. It’s already rooted in Him. You’re not just here to admire creation. You’re here to join it in worship.
So, the next time you see a sunrise or hear the wind rustle through the leaves, take a moment to echo the song of heaven, “You are worthy our Lord and God.” because this world and your life were made for His glory.
Let that be your purpose and your peace. Have a good weekend, everyone! We hope to see you on Sunday at 9 or 10:30 a.m. May the love of God the Father, the grace of Jesus Christ, and the presence of the Holy Spirit surround you this day and always.
