The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction. – Proverbs 1:7 (NASB)
But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. – James 1:5-6 (NASB)
The verses above remind me that true wisdom isn’t simply about having all the answers or knowing what to do in every situation. Wisdom often comes in moments when we pause long enough to let God’s truth speak louder than our own thoughts. It begins with a humble heart, one that reveres God and recognizes that His ways are higher than ours. Human knowledge can only take us so far. Godly wisdom goes beyond logic or experience. It draws us into seeing life through God’s eyes, trusting His timing, His purpose, and His character even when things don’t make sense.
I’m so thankful that God doesn’t leave us to figure out life on our own. He invites us to ask for wisdom, and He promises to give it generously. Often that wisdom comes not just through prayer and Scripture, but through the voices of godly friends He’s placed in our lives. It is a blessing to have a circle of Christian brothers and sisters, both younger and older, to speak with frequently. Their insights, encouragement, and prayers are a valuable gift. Through them, we are more able to see how the Holy Spirit works in community, reminding us that wisdom isn’t a solo pursuit but something God cultivates in fellowship.
Each conversation, each prayer shared, becomes another reminder that God’s wisdom flows best when we’re open – open to His Word, to His Spirit, and to the counsel of others who love Him.
So, as we face new challenges and decisions, we need to keep coming back to this truth: wisdom begins not with what we know but with Who we trust. When we fear the Lord, ask in faith, and walk in community, we can rest assured that He will guide our steps – one wise decision at a time.
